The Japan Language School Teachers' Association (JALSTA), in collaboration with JFND and The DELHI SADO Club, recently hosted a special and profoundly enriching tea ceremony workshop (SADO) for the principals and Japanese language teachers of its member schools.

The workshop, held at The Japan Foundation in Greenpark, New Delhi, provided an exclusive opportunity to delve into the authentic spirit of the Japanese tea ceremony. The event was gracefully conducted by a young master currently undergoing training with The SADO Club, showcasing the club's dedication to preserving and passing on this cherished tradition to the next generation. The Japanese ladies of The Tea Ceremony Club, Delhi, embodied quiet grace, their practiced hands moving with deliberate patience through each precise element of the ritual, allowing the delicate dance of omotenashi (wholehearted hospitality) to unfold.

The traditional SADO ceremony was presented as a meticulous ballet of whisking matcha, offering sweets, and sharing a bowl. This intricate performance fostered a moment of tranquil harmony and mindful connection among all participants. The members of The SADO Club graciously made the entire experience an immersive learning journey for the JALSTA members and attending dignitaries, patiently explaining each step and its significance.

Participants were able to appreciate the finer nuances of the chazen ceremony, from the peaceful and deliberate preparation of the tea to its fine, distinctive taste. The absolute humility and  love with which each bowl of tea was served, deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, left a lasting impression on everyone present. To further enhance understanding, carefully prepared pamphlets were distributed, providing all participants with a deeper insight into this beautiful  ceremony.

The workshop proved to be a fragrant and enriching addition to the attendees' understanding of this cherished Japanese tradition, truly embodying the spirit of cultural exchange and appreciation.
